Three Games, 12 Goals Conceded — Gladbach Sack Polanski

Borussia Mönchengladbach have sacked Eugen Polanski after losing their opening three Bundesliga matches and conceding 12 goals.

A 5–0 defeat by Freiburg proved the final game of his tenure.

Assistant coach Jan-Moritz Lichte has been placed in interim charge while Gladbach search for a replacement.

Polanski’s dismissal is particularly abrupt because the club only appointed him permanently in November 2025, handing him a contract running until 2028.

Less than a year later, he is gone.

Gladbach’s opening three league games produced three defeats, 12 goals conceded and enough concern for the club to abandon the project before September is half over.

Another early reset

The decision also continues an uncomfortable pattern.

Gladbach changed coach at essentially the same stage last season.

Changing managers quickly can stop a collapse.

Having to do it in consecutive seasons suggests the problem may extend beyond the manager.

For now, Lichte inherits a team conceding an average of four goals per Bundesliga game.

Three matches were enough for Gladbach to decide they had seen enough.
