Valencia have sacked manager Carlos Corberán and chief executive Ron Gourlay after taking just one point from their opening five La Liga matches.
Corberán leaves only months after guiding Valencia away from relegation trouble and then to a ninth-place finish last season.
Five games into the new campaign, that recovery has unravelled.
Valencia are winless with one point from a possible 15, prompting the club to remove both its head coach and chief executive rather than make a managerial change alone.
Academy coach Óscar Sánchez has been placed in interim charge.
The club will now begin searching for Corberán’s replacement while restructuring its sporting operation following Gourlay’s departure.
More than a managerial sacking
Five matches is an exceptionally short window in which to abandon a coach who delivered significant improvement the previous season.
Removing the CEO at the same time makes the decision broader.
Valencia are not simply changing the man in the dugout. They are resetting the structure above him as well.
For a club that finished ninth only months ago, the new season has lasted five games before the rebuild began again.
