Donald Trump says he will consider releasing additional government records relating to the September 11 attacks after victims’ families and lawmakers called for further declassification.
The request includes phone records and other government material that families believe could shed more light on whether any of the attackers received outside assistance, including possible Saudi links.
Asked about the request, Trump said:
“I’m going to look at it when I get back.”
Families of those killed on September 11 have been joined by bipartisan New York lawmakers in pressing for more records to be made public.
Twenty-five years after the attacks, they want to know what relevant material remains classified and why.
WHAT REMAINS SECRET?
Trump has not yet ordered another declassification.
Anything that can now be released safely should face a much higher bar for continued secrecy.
The best answer to speculation about 9/11 is evidence.
Release what can safely be released and let people see it for themselves.
